Diversity as key
On 27 September, Dirk van Apeldoorn gave our researchers a masterclass in strip cropping. He has been working on strip cropping since 2014 and has supervised a large number of students since then.
Dirk showed us what is known in science about the advantages and disadvantages of strip cropping and how research into strip cropping has taken off in recent years. In colourful graphics, Dirk gave an overview of knowledge gained about yields, strip width, pest suppression and biodiversity restoration, among other things. However, he stressed that strip cropping is not the solution for a more sustainable agriculture, but that we should also strive for diversity when looking for solutions for a future-proof agriculture.
Our 20 PhD students, and the research team around them, are committed to further driving the transition in the coming years. Want to know more about their research? Read about our three work packages.
